We had the change to take a first look at the brand new SR1 and SR1 Plus speed controllers from Vampire Racing. The German brand is known for their range of competition LiPo batteries and the recently introduced Type AB+ modified brushless motors. Now, Vampire Racing made the next step by releasing a new line of brushless speed controllers.
The speedos are called the SR1 and SR1 Plus and slightly differ in terms of the specification with the SR1 being capable of running motors as low as 5.5T and the SR1 Plus as low as 3.5T. The SR1 Plus also features a lower internal resistance, higher peak current and an additional cooling can atop the black anodised heatsink.
Overall the SR1 sports a very small footprint for a competition speed controller with an overall length of 39mm (including solder posts), a width of 30mm and a height of 24mm (32mm with fan unit) meaning it is ideal for 1/10 scale touring cars as well as tight 4WD off-road chassis and slim 2WD buggy tubs.
Spec-wise, the SR1's are designed for the use with 1S and 2S LiPo, 2S LiFe and up to six NiMH cells. The sensored controllers feature Gold-plated solder tabs with replaceable wires so you can swap the speedos with ease between chassis if needed without having to fear the wires become too short at a point.
When it comes to the software features, both the SR1 and SR1 Plus feature over temperature and low-voltage cut-off protection, and a PTS (Power Timing System) called programming feature to adjust the characteristic of the controller to your likings. Designed as an adaptive system which continuously calculates the ideal timing value from multiple parameters, it will give you an improved feel for your car. This not only gives you more power - it especially means that you can handle the massive power of today's brushless systems better than ever. Both speedos also offer the possibility for firmware updates using an optional USB interface.
