Today Michael gives us a short insight into his electronics department. He just bought himself one of Team Orion's EZ Charge Pro-AM Digital AA/AAA chargers. The small and simple device charges up to four AA or AAA size NiMH batteries while connected to a 12V or 100-240V power source.
The EZ Pro-AM charger features a blue back-lit LC display showing the charge status or defective cells. Charging is controlled by a Delta-Peak cut-off together with a temperature cut-off at 60°C to prevent overcharging of defective cells. With 800mAh charging current an average AAA battery is fully charged within around 60 minutes and Michael was able to proof that with the help of his fruit mobile phone.
The first cell was completely charged after 54:40 minutes with the last cell ready to use after 61:01 minutes. To refresh older cells a special program discharges them with 100mAh down to 1.0V per cell as this can bring abused NiCd and NiMH batteries back to life.
Team Orion's EZ Pro-AM charger features a couple of safety precautions like reverse polarity protection, high current and short-circuit protection as well as the aforementioned high temperature cut-off to make for a user-friendly and easy to use device.
