In only two weeks time the official Guiness World Record attempt for the world's largest Kyosho Mini-Z track takes place near Hamburg/Germany. Last weekend Sebastian of area52 and I checked the status of the track preparations. First up: the track is large! But Alex, the organizer, told us, it's going to be even larger for the World Record attempt. Yet alone the wooden rostrum is huge and more than 12 meters long. This means more than enough space for the fastest and most fearless drivers on the planet.
The track is located in a (former) sports-center for tennis, indoor-soccer and speedminton, a funny mix of tennis and badminton. One part of the building is the Mini-Z track. To date the track looks huge compared to the small 1/27 scale cars, and it compromises some some very tight chicanes, what could make it hard to find the proper racing line, when you drive with 10 other adrenaline-contaminated maniacs around the course. The straight is nearly 15 meters long and becomes even longer for the record attempt.
During our visit here, there was a kids-birthday-race, so rather than eating cake and drinking sugar-free lemonade we went outside to check the surroundings. Behind the building the outdoor tennis courts are located but they looked very sorry for themselves and it seemed that they have seen hardly any action during the summer month. Or the owners are waiting until the red sand-surface turns into a Wimbledon green after a while? Who knows …
